Spider solitaire
Build runs from king down to ace in one suit. Each finished run leaves the table; clear all eight to win. Every deal here has been played to a win by a solver.
How to play Spider solitaire
How to play
Put any card on a card one rank higher, whatever the suit: a 7 on an 8. A run of cards can only move together when it is all one suit and in order. Drag cards, or tap a card and then tap the column it should go to. Double-tap sends a card or run to the best spot.
Dealing and runs
When you're stuck, tap the stock to deal one new card onto every column. Every column needs at least one card before you can deal. A full run from king to ace in one suit is removed automatically.
Tips
Prefer building in one suit, even when another move looks just as good. Turn over hidden cards and empty a column whenever you can: an empty column is the most useful thing on the table. Deal only when you have done everything useful.
Levels
1 suit is relaxed and almost always winnable. 2 suits needs some planning. 4 suits is the real challenge. On every level, each deal comes from a bank of deals that a solver has played through to a win.
Questions
Can every game of Spider solitaire be won?
Not every random deal, especially with 4 suits. The deals here come from banks that a computer solver has played through to a win, so a win is always possible, even if it isn't easy.
What is the difference between 1, 2 and 4 suits?
The game uses two full decks either way. With 1 suit every card is a spade, so any run can move. With 2 or 4 suits, runs only move when they are all one suit, which makes sorting much harder.
Why can't I deal from the stock?
Every column must have at least one card before you deal a new row. Move any card into the empty column first.
What does the hint do?
It finds a useful move, such as turning over a hidden card or building a run in one suit, highlights it and tells you why. When nothing helps, it suggests dealing a new row.
Can I undo a deal?
Yes. Undo works for every move, including dealing from the stock, all the way back to the start.
