Bridges

Build straight wooden footbridges between the islands. Each number says how many bridges touch that island, and in the end every island must be reachable from every other.

How to play Bridges

How to play

Drag from an island toward its neighbour to build a bridge; do it again to make it double, and once more to remove it. You can also tap a bridge to switch it between single, double and none, or tap two islands in turn.

The rules

Bridges run straight across or up and down, never diagonally, and never cross another bridge. Two islands can share at most two bridges. Each island's number is its total of bridges, and all islands must end up linked into one group.

Tips

Start with islands whose number leaves no choice, like a 4 in a corner or a 3 with only two neighbours. Watch out for small groups that close themselves off from the rest. Islands turn green once their number is met.

Keyboard

Arrow keys move between islands. Shift plus an arrow builds a bridge in that direction (again for double, again to remove). Enter selects an island so you can link it to the next one you choose.

Questions

Does every Bridges puzzle have exactly one solution?

Yes. Each puzzle is checked by an exhaustive search for exactly one answer, and by a step-by-step solver that reaches it by reasoning alone, without guessing.

What do the levels mean?

Easy puzzles only need each island's number weighed against its neighbours. Medium puzzles also need you to keep groups from closing themselves off. Hard puzzles add short what-if chains.

What does the hint do?

It works out the next bridge a careful solver would build from your current position, builds it, highlights it and explains why. If one of your bridges is wrong, it removes that one first.

Is this the same as Hashiwokakero or Hashi?

Bridges uses the same classic rules as the island puzzle known under those names. Our puzzles are original and free to play.
