How to play Word Search

How to play

Find each word from the list in the grid. Drag from its first letter to its last letter, or tap the first letter and then the last. Your line snaps to straight across, down or diagonal, so a rough swipe is enough. With a keyboard, move with the arrow keys and press Enter on the first and last letter.

Levels

Easy is an 8×8 grid with words that run left to right or top to bottom. Medium adds diagonals on a 10×10 grid. Hard (12×12) and Expert (15×15) hide words in all 8 directions, including backwards.

Tips

Scan for a rare letter such as K, V or Z first, or for a double letter. Long words are easier to spot, so start with them and the short ones get easier as the grid fills with circles.

Daily puzzle

The daily is a Hard 12×12 grid on a theme of the day, the same for everyone. Come back tomorrow for a new one.

Questions

Can a word appear twice in the grid?

No. Each grid is checked so that every word on the list appears exactly once, in every direction, so there is only ever one place to find it.

Do words go backwards or diagonally?

It depends on the level. Easy words run only left to right or top to bottom, Medium adds forward diagonals, and Hard and Expert use all 8 directions, including backwards.

What does the hint do?

It makes the first letter of one of the remaining words flash and tells you which word starts there. The letter stays circled until you find that word.

How do I select a word on a phone?

Put your finger on the first letter and slide towards the last one. The highlight snaps to the nearest straight or diagonal line. You can also tap the first letter and then the last.

Where do the words come from?

Each theme is a hand-picked list of everyday words, checked against a list of common English words. Word lists: SCOWL and ENABLE.
