How to play
Tap a square and type. Tap the same square again to switch between across and down. The current clue is shown in the bar, and the grid jumps to the next empty square as you type.
Keys
On a computer, type with your keyboard: arrows move, Space switches direction, Tab jumps to the next clue and Backspace deletes. On a phone or tablet, use the letter keys under the grid so the page never jumps.
Stuck?
Check word or Check puzzle crosses out wrong letters. Reveal letter and Reveal word fill in squares for you. Each of these counts as a hint.

Starter 4×4 is a gentle warm-up, Mini 5×5 is the classic quick crossword, and Midi 7×7 takes a little longer. The daily mini is the same for everyone and changes at midnight UTC.

Every clue here was written for Puzzle Desk. The answers are everyday words, never obscure crossword fill, and each clue is a plain definition with the odd bit of light wordplay.
Does checking or revealing count against me?
Check and reveal each count as a hint, which shows in your result. Your time still counts, so you can compare a clean solve with a helped one.
Is there a new mini crossword every day?
Yes. The daily mini changes at midnight UTC and is the same puzzle for everyone. Starter and Midi puzzles are there whenever you want more.
Where do the words come from?
Answers are picked from common English words that work in both British and American spelling. Word lists: SCOWL and ENABLE.
