How to play

Scoring
Three-letter words score 1 point, four letters 2, five letters 3, six letters 5, seven letters 7 and eight letters 10, plus 3 for every letter after that. The Qu tile counts as two letters.
Levels
Three minutes is the classic 4 by 4 round. Relaxed uses the same kind of grid with no clock, so finish whenever you like. Big grid is 5 by 5 with three minutes and many more words.
After the round
You see every word you found and the familiar words you missed. Tap a missed word to see where it hides on the grid. The daily grid is the same for everyone.
Questions
Is this like the classic letter-dice game?
It uses the same idea of tracing words through touching letters, with our own grid, letter mix and scoring. Grids are drawn from our own letter weights with enough vowels, so there are always plenty of words.
How many words are in a grid?
Every 4 by 4 grid has at least 45 familiar words, usually around 70, and every 5 by 5 grid has at least 110. Rarer real words count too when you find them.
Which words are allowed?
Real English words of three letters or more from our accepted list, including plurals and verb forms. Names, abbreviations and offensive words are not allowed. British and American spellings both count.
Does the clock keep running if I leave?
No. The round pauses while the page is hidden, and if you come back later you get a Resume button with the time you had left.
Where do the words come from?
Word lists: SCOWL and ENABLE. The missed-word list only shows familiar words from SCOWL, with offensive and upsetting words left out.
